FACULTY HISTORY
The Faculty of Medicine was created in 1930, when the Samarkand State Medical Institute was founded, and it remained the institute’s only faculty until 1963.
The faculty’s main departments were established between 1930 and 1935. New departments and courses were established in connection with the designation of the institute to the second category of universities in 1947, then to the highest first category of universities in 1965. As a result, each department and course has a long and illustrious history of educating skilled specialists.
Two students were awarded President of the Republic of Uzbekistan scholarships, six were awarded State scholarships named after A. Ibn Sino, two were awarded State scholarships named after I. Karimov, four were awarded the Association of Physicians of the Republic of Uzbekistan, and three were awarded the Trade Union of the Republic of Uzbekistan. In addition, more than 50 of the faculty’s bright students have won important international and republican contests, as well as scientific Olympiads.
There are 2395 students in the faculty. In line with the qualifying criteria of a doctor of medicine (attending physician) in the direction 5510100 – “General Medicine,” training is conducted in Uzbek, Russian and English languages.
Strict adherence to teaching discipline, broad use of modern pedagogical technology in pedagogical practice, and enhancing the quality and efficiency of teaching at faculty departments all play a key role in the educational process’ organization.
The institute’s personnel responds enthusiastically to regular material help for instructors and students, cash awards, admission of students for renowned state scholarships, as well as the scholarship of the Association of Doctors of Uzbekistan.
Working with gifted students receives special attention; in 2020, more than 100 students were admitted to the corresponding group; they participated actively in student scientific circles, represented the institute at republican olympiads, presented reports at republican and international scientific conferences, and received publications, medals, and diplomas. Some of them began seriously researching ideas for future master’s and doctorate dissertations.
Spiritual and educational work of the faculty contributes to the development of students universal cultural values, centuries-old traditions and the rich heritage of our people, the unique way of building a sovereign Uzbekistan, the formation of high spiritual and moral qualities based on fostering feelings of patriotism and pride for our country.
SPIRITUAL AND ENLIGHTENING WORK AT THE MEDICAL FACULTY
One of the main duties of teachers is to educate students of moral values, interest in their professional activities, the desire for a healthy lifestyle, participation in social and cultural activities of the Institute. The faculty has a pedagogical council that carries out these responsibilities in line with the authorized plan.
Students from the faculty compete in a variety of national creative competitions. Physical culture and sports receive a lot of attention.
Cultural work aims to organize students’ free time in a relevant way. The establishment of strong moral values among students, as well as the development of interest in professional activities and a healthy lifestyle, is one of the faculty’s primary tasks.
Spiritual and educational work is carried out according to a pre-approved plan, in which different activities are organized in connection with historical anniversaries, national holidays, sports contests, law enforcement agencies, spiritual centers, and other partner organizations.
Each curator has a work plan, based on which numerous activities with the coaching team are carried out, as well as information on each student and his daily life. Scenes of events can also be included on LPs and CDs. Faculty deans and deputy deans meet with group trainers and students on a regular basis.
Every Thursday, courses begin with a review of the “Information Hour” materials, which cover the most relevant happenings in the republic and abroad.
